Thursday Revisted

Thursday started out with the OHL announcing the winners of the 2010-11 Eastern Conference Coaches Poll.

If you missed it then

Christian Thomas NYR 2010 2nd: Most Dangerous in the Goal Area (1st), Best Shot (1st) and Hardest Shot (2nd)

Casey Cizikas NYI 2009 4th: Smartest Player (1st), Best on Face-Offs (1st) and Best Defensive Forward (1st) How Cizikas was not even on the best penalty killer list is a real headscratcher

Calvin de Haan NYI 2009 1st: Best Skater (3rd) and Best Offensive Defenceman (2nd)

In the WCHA

Matt Donovan of Denver (NYI 2008 2nd) was named to the WCHA 2nd Team

Jason Gregoire of North Dakota (NYI 2007 3rd) is on the WCHA 3rd Team

In the CCHA

Carl Hagelin (NYR 2007 6th) is a finalist for the CCHA's Player of the Year as well as Defensive Forward of the Year.

However we have to wonder how Anders Lee (NYI 2009 6th) of Notre Dame did not make the cut for the CCHA Rookie Of The Year. Lee was the leading goal scorer NATIONALLY among college freshman.

Thursday Night Action

Jason Wilson (NYR 2010 5th) tied his career high as he scored his 17th goal of the season to help his Niagara IceDogs defeat the Brampton Battalion 4-3 in overtime. Wilson has used his overage season very well in improving his all-around game and we expect him to be in Hartford next season with the Whale.

In the opening game of their best of 3 series with Northeastern; Corey Trivino (NYI 2008 2nd) and his Boston University Terriers dropped game 1 4-2. Trivino was held scoreless as the Terriers as it is are on the NCAA tournament bubble before losing game 1.

Game 2 is set for Friday night so we will skip the cliches.
