Scott Stajcer's Sunday

Scott Stajcer (2009 5th) was the only prospect for either the New York Rangers or the New York Islanders to play on Sunday. And play is exactly what Stajcer did as he put on a solid 39 save performance helping his Owen Sound Attack to a 5-1 win over the Windsor Spitfires.

For Stajcer it was his 4th straight strong outing but in this case he earned a win for his efforts. It was not easy at first as Windsor dominated the first period in part because Owen Sound gave them 3 power plays.

Windsor out shot Owen Sound 18-6 and despite the 3 power plays were held to just an even strength goal. We have this feeling that during the first intermission that Owen Sound coach Greg Ireland had some choice words for his players and doubt any of them were nice.

In the second period, the Attack tightened up on defense limiting the Spitfires to just 11 shots and taking the game to the Spitfires. It worked as Stajcer only faced 11 shots in the second and none of them were really dangerous but the Attack scored 2 goals to take a 2-1 lead.

In the 3rd period, Stajcer stopped Alex Khokhlachev on a breakaway that could have tied the game up at 2-2 but instead his Attack teammates broke the game open with 3 goals in the third to help Stajcer earn his 2nd win of the season.

Stajcer appears to have shaken off the rust and has in addition to his 2-2-1-1 record; lowered his goals against to 2.62 and improved his save percentage to 0.920. Good for Stajcer but we hope that it forces Owen Sound to make a decision soon as to who will be their starter.

Taking turns is not going to help Stajcer or Jordan Binnington with their development. Not to mention there is a 3rd goalie who is never going to play with this setup.

For those keeping count today was the 3rd game Christian Thomas (2010 2nd) missed with 7 more games to go in his suspension.
