Strome is caught in the limbo that is being caused by the possibility of the NHL lockout. Any other season and we are talking about Strome earning a spot on the Islander roster.
Instead since the lockout is just about a given then Strome will be rejoining fellow Islander prospects Mitchell Theoret (2011 7th) and Jesse Graham (2012 6th) on the Niagara IceDogs at least to start the season.
Niagara was expecting to lose Strome to the Islanders and if you listen to David Branch (CHL President) then if the NHL settles the labor issues then the NHL will be able to have access to players like Strome.
In the meantime the Erie Otters found out the hard way what Ryan Strome can do on the ice. Strome was making his exhibition season debut and it was a dandy of effort.
Strome had a 5 point evening (2-3-5) as his Niagara IceDogs jumped out to a 5-0 lead before hanging on for a 7-4 win. Strome scored the IceDog's 5th and 7th goals of the game (the 5th one turned out to be the game winner) along with his 3 assists.
It may not have been either team's regular season lineup but Strome looked like he was more than ready to play at any level. Erie didn't have Adam Pelech (NYI 2012 3rd) on defense nor their starting goalie Columbus Bluejacket draft pick Victor Dansk.
In other games Peterborough Petes with Peter Ceresnak (NYR 2011 6th) lost to the Oshawa Generals 5-1. No word on whether or not Ceresnak was in the lineup.
Most of the Ranger and Islander prospects will be seeing action this weekend since they won't be leaving for the NHL camps as they would have if there was a new collective bargaining agreement. 8 days until the NHL/NHLPA CBA expires but nobody knows what will happen.
