Catching Up

First off an apology for taking a couple of badly needed days off but they could not be avoided so here is the catch up

Monday

Troy Donnay (NYR 2013 UFA) and Adam Pelech (NYI 2013 3rd) were scoreless as their Erie Otters edged the Sudbay Wolves 3-2 on Monday evening. This was a makeup game for one postponed when workers drilled through pipes causing pipes to burst and the ice to be flooded. Erie played this game without their leading scorer Dane Fox who was a healthy scratch (read that as he must have broken a team rule and paid for it).

Tuesday

Kyle Burroughs (NYI 2013 7th) and his Regina Pats extended their winning streak to 8 games with an 8-0 spanking of the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Burroughs did not score but was a +3 as the Pats built on their WHL East Division lead with the win.

Victor Crus Rydberg (NYI 2013 5th) had a 1-1-2 game to lead his Plymouth Whalers to a 4-2 win over the Kitchener Rangers. Crus Rydberg recorded his 10th goal as well as his 23rd assist as the Whalers picked up 2 crucial points over the Rangers who trailed the Whalers by 5 points in the OHL's Western Comnference standings.

The 7th place Whalers now hold a 7 point lead over 8th place Kitchener with just 8 games remaining in the regular season for both teams.

Wednesday

Troy Donnay (NYR 2013 UFA) had an assist and picked up his 5th fighting major while Adam Pelech (NYI 2012 3rd) was scoreless as their Erie Otters watched a 3-0 first period lead become a 5-3 loss to the London Knights. This was a costly loss for the Otters who are struggling as of late going 5-5 in their last 10 games.

London has passed Erie for 3rd place in the OHL's Western Conference race not to mention falling 5 points behind conference leader Guelph. Are the tires standing to come off for the Otters?

Loic Leduc (NYI 2012 4th) may not be scoring but his Rimouski Oceanic keep winning with Leduc as their starting defender as they won their 9th straight game. The Oceanic defeated the Chicoutimi Saguenéens 5-1 while Leduc was scoreless seeing a 6'6 defender with 3 hits in a game always is nice.

Rimouski appears to be settling into the 4th seed with 8 games remaining which would insure home ice for at least 2 rounds of the QMJHL playoffs.

Ryan Graves (NYR 2013 4th) and his Val-d'Or Foreurs saw their 8 game winning streak come to an end at the hands of the Drummondville Voltigeurs 4-0. The loss hurt the 5th place Foreurs as the 7th placed Voltiguers pulled to within 2 points of the Foreurs.

Graves who of course did not score took 4 shots and registered 1 hit.

Mackenzie Skapski (NYR 2013 6th) rebounded from his performance on Saturday where he was yanked after just 1 period by earning 3rd star of the game honors after stopping 22 of 23 shots to lead his Kootenay Ice to a 5-1 win over the Moose Jaw Warriors. Skaspski improves to 26-15-2-1 2.65 goals against with a save percentage of 0.919.

Kootenay remains 5 points behind Medicine Hat for 4th place in the WHL's Eastern Conference standings (Kootenay has game in hand).

Ryan Pulock (NYI 2013 1st) had a 2 assist game as his Brandon Wheat Kings won their 2nd straight game, this time a 6-2 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Pulock has been hot as of late as he tries to lead his Wheat Kings to a playoff spot now has a 4 game scoring streak (3-5-8) to improve to 20-35-55 and help the 7th placed Wheat Kings improve to a 4 point lead over 8th place Red Deer and a 5 point lead over 9th place Red Deer.

Kyle Burroughs (NYI 2013 7th) scored his 7th goal of the season but the Regina Pats saw their 8 game winning streak end after a 6-2 loss to the Swift Current Broncos. Swift Current outplayed Regina almost wire to wire as Burrough's goal was a meaningless goal while Swift Current was already up 6-1.

Finally Griffin Reinhart (NYI 2012 1st) missed two more games this week as he was "under the weather" and his Edmonton Oil Kings split 2 games on the schedule. Sorry this Oil King team without Reinhart in their daily lineup are easy pickings for any other WHL team.
