Now I know hockey season is here because there are way too many games to track after BUT Ranger prospects had a mixed night so away we go.
I am beginning to think Ryan Hillier really likes seeing his picture up at Prospect Park but you have to earn the first picture spot and Hillier is repeatedly doing so.
Ryan had 2 goals (#6+7), an assist (#4) and a "2nd star" to his season resume as his Halifax Mooseheads (QMJHL) whipped on the Saint John Sea Dogs 5-2. Let us not forget to include the 4 solid hits and Hillier's 6 dangerous shots and here is your star of the night
Hillier's 7 goals in 7 games is the high for Ranger prospects on the season. I have no problem with Hillier and Bobby Sanguinetti having a goal contest this season do you?
Staying in the QMJHL, Antoine Lafleur may not have had the beauty contest win of the night but I bet he will take a 7-6 win for his Prince Edward Island Rocket over the Quebec Remparts.
Pretty was not the key word in this game as it was pond hockey at it's best (or worst if you like defensive hockey). From the number's standpoint this one is a clunker giving up 6 goals on 22 shots but this is also the offense crazy QMJHL where defense at times is an afterthought.
On the other hand David Skokan would like to have borrowed some of those goals as his Rimouski Oceaninc were shut out 6-0 by the Baie-Comeau Drakkar. It was one of those nights for Skokan as nothing seemed to work for him.
An -2, 7-9 on face offs and 4 PIMs did not make Skokan's Friday night a "Kodak Moment"
Of course then there was Bobby Sanguinetti of his Brampton Battalion fresh off his "Prospect Park Prospect of the Week" award. Sanguinetti had the Sports Illustrated jinx response to his award going a -2, missing his shoot out shot but his Battalion edged the Ottawa 67's 3-2 in the shootout.
We get to introduce a new Prospect this evening as 2007 7th round pick Danny Hobbs made his season debut as a member of the Ohio Junior Blue Jackets in the USHL. Hobbs is a 6 Ft 185 lefthanded shot who plays on the right side for the Junior BJs.
Hobbs is going to spend this season with the BJs before heading to UMass next fall so the Rangers could have to wait until the 2012 season before Hobbs turns pro.
My lines of communication with the BJs is being developed so our info is sketchy at best but we do know that Hobbs was scoreless (except for scoring on his shoot out shot) as Ohio defeated the Green Bay Gamblers 5-4 in the shoot out after blowing a 4-0 lead.
I would rather tell you very little about how Hobbs played until we get more information on his game.
We got even less information on Eric Hunter's debut as a member of the University of Alberta's Golden Bear. We know that the GB's lost 4-3 in overtime to the University of British Columbia and will pass along whatever we find out.
Sorry about the lack of information about Hunter and Hobbs but we are working with new teams and schools so it might take a while to get them on the same page as us.
We will be back later with an update if we get more.

Hey Jess,
I was just wondering the Kitchen Rangers of the OHL, http://www.kitchenerrangers.com/,
Have almost the exact home and away uniforms as our NY Rangers. They even have the same emblem.
Does MSG own them?? Does the ranger roster or farm system have anyone from there?
at one time the Rangers were affiliated with them but not anymore. They have kept the logo and the jerseys though
Steve
Rich is 100% right here as that is what happened.
It goes back to the days of the Original NHL 6 teams where the teams had not only control over junior teams but the rights to players from specific Canadian regions
Rich
