His Name is Bobby Sanguinetti

$Yes that was Bobby Sanguinetti on the world stage with a power play goal and power play assist in Team USA's 4-2 win over the Swiss on Friday.

It is almost comical to see people acting like Sanguinetti's efforts were something new but for Ranger fans it is just another day at the office.

We here have been calling Sanguinetti "a multi-warhead nuclear weapon" and there are two schools of thought here.

First Sanguinetti is going to get better as his body matures and he develops as a player. Second he will (we hope) be doing it as a member of the Rangers.

Against the Swiss, Sanguinetti did what he does best which is produce on the power play. In the second period taking a feed in the slot from fellow Ranger fan James vanRiemsdyk , Sanguinetti fired a shot past the Swiss goalie Robert Mayer before he knew what happened.

The play was all too typical Sanguinetti just like in the 3rd period when with the US on a 2 man advantage, Sanguinetti returned the favor to vanRiemsdyk setting him up for what proved to be the game winner.

Now comes what basically can be called the "battle to avoid Canada" as Team USA can take a major step towards earning a bye to the semi-final if they can defeat Russia and fellow Ranger prospects Anisimov and Alexei Cherepanov Saturday.

USA Hockey will have a LIVE audiocast of the game which starts at 2PM EDT/11AM PDT right HERE. This should be one very good game to listen to so do not miss it.

One almost has to feel sorry for Carl Hagelin as he failed to register either a shot on goal or well anything as his Team Sweden blew out Denmark 10-1. It is very strange based upon what we have seen so far of Hagelin to not even get a shot on goal in a game.

If you have not gotten a chance to see Artem Anisimov in action then here is a video of his goal against Finland. While the most of the credit goes to his linemate Nikita Filatov it still is a nice goal from in the slot.

Meanwhile back in North America

We have a Billy Ryan sighting as the Maine Blackbear senior had a goal and 2 assists in hleping Maine upset 8th ranked Clarkson 5-3. The Blackbears were playing in the first round of the Florida College Classic in Estero Florida.

Returning from their holiday break to play in this annual tournament, Ryan had one of best games of the season. Ryan who has been struggling to score this season started his scoring by setting up teammate Rob Bellamy to give the Blackbears a 3-1 lead (which they promptly gave back) in the second period.

With the score tied at 3, Ryan fed Andrew Sweetland for a power play goal with just 53 seconds remaining in the second period on what was the game winning goal. For the icing on the cake Ryan added just his 3rd goal of the season, a highlight reel goal scoring it with one hand on the stick as he was falling to the ice.

Maine will face UMass Lowell on Saturday for the Florida College Classic Championship. Many thanks to the Maine Blackbears for the information used in this report.

Danny Hobbs was scoreless as his Ohio Junior Bluejackets lost their return from their holiday break dropping a 6-3 decision to the Cedar Rapids Roughriders.

Antoine Lafleur was the backup as his Prince Edward Island Rocket lost 5-3 lost 5-3 to the Saint Johns Fog Devils.

We do not know why Jordan Foote missed his Michigan Tech's upset of 5th ranked Michigan State 4-1 in the opening round of the Great Lakes Invitational but will pass along the information if we get it. The Huskie's reward for that upset is to face top ranked Michigan minus Carl Hagelin and 3 others.

(Saturday Update, Jordan Foote missed the game due to serving a suspension for fighting in his last game against Northern Michigan. It is a 3 game suspension so he has 2 more games to sit out)

Greg Beller is more than likely back to being a healthy scratch for Yale as they defeated Nebraska-Omaha 6-3.

We will try to find video for both the Sanguinetti goal and the Ryan goal and will post them if we get them.

Check back tomorrow for the breakdown of all the action.
