Some Sunday Stuff

Sorry this is not prospect related but it is something that needs to pass around. From the Seattle Thunderbirds (WHL) via Gregg Drinnan of Talking Note:

“We are writing to you today because we need your assistance to save the life of a female hockey player. Mandi Schwartz, a 22-year-old member of the Yale women's ice hockey team, has recently been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia for the second time. She is currently on her way from her hometown in Saskatchewan to Seattle, and within the next 30-45 days she will need to have a stem cell transplant to survive. A donor who is a perfect match has yet to be found.”
For more on Mandi and the drive to find a donor, please visit the Thunderbirds’ website and take a look at this HERE

Please spread the word everywhere folks as time is not on Mandy's side.

Former Ranger assistant coach Perry Pearn turned down the Edmonton Oil Kings (WHL) offer to become their head coach. Pearn wants to remain in the NHL as an assistant with the Montreal Canadians.

Think he made a mistake here as it has been a while since Pearn has a head coach anywhere so if he wants to run his own team then he should take a head coaching job someplace.

Huge props to Ethan Werek (2009 2nd) who was given an invite to attend Canada’s National Junior Team development camp, scheduled for early August in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

Werek was the only current Ranger draft pick selected by Hockey Canada but several of those on the Ranger's draft radar also earned invites as well. Still waiting on USA Hockey to send out their invites but Chris Kreider (2009 1st) and Ryan Bourque (2009 3rd) are considered locks for the 2011 team.
