Ranger/Islander Togetherness

When you are trying to cover prospects you really hope for games when multiple prospects are involved just to cut back on the number of games you have to keep track of. Or you are lucky enough to have 4 prospects playing on the Oshawa Generals as we are.

The Generals are any interesting franchise as they have as part of their ownership group a current NHL coach in Peter DeBoers of the Florida Panthers, and a very popular former NHL player in Adam Graves. Chris DiPiero is the coach and general manager and assisted by a former Ranger in Joe Cirella.

On the Generals are 2 key prospects for the New York Rangers and New York Islanders in Christian Thomas (NYR 2010 2nd) and Calvin De Haan (NYI 2009 1st). Both teams have secondary prospects who are defensemen in Dan Maggio (NYR 2009 6th) and Tony DeHart (NYI 2010 5th).

So while you are wondering why we bring this up it is because all 4 prospects made a contribution in the Generals 8-2 win over the Barrie Colts. From Thomas with a 3 point night to Maggio and DeHart dropping the gloves to fight at the same time, this was a group effort and group win.

Thomas was the game's 3rd star as his first goal of the night turned out to be the game winning goal when he scored his 27th of the season at 18:11 of the first period for a 3-0 Oshawa lead. It was a power play goal and Calvin De Haan earned a secondary assist.

47 seconds later Thomas set up Andy Andreoff for another power play goal and a 4-0 Oshawa lead as the rout was on. Tony DeHart had a secondary on Oshawa's first goal of the game for his 18th assist and 20th point of the season.

In the 2nd period Thomas got his 2nd goal of the game at 2:17 this time at even strength to give the Generals a 5-1 lead. Dan Maggio registered his first point as a General when he set up Nicklas Jensen at 18:35 on Oshawa's 7th goal of the game.

In the 3rd period at 8:01 Maggio and DeHart were paired up when Barrie Colts let their frustrations out as both Maggio and DeHart wound up in fights that ended their nights. Both players wound up with fighting majors and misconductsThe video has not been posted yet but we are just as interested in seeing what has to be the first time Islander and Ranger prospects were paired up and fought.

The evening winds up like this Thomas 2-1-3 +1 0 PIMs, De Haan 0-1-1 +2, DeHart 0-1-1 +1 17 PIMs, Maggio 0-1-1 +1 21 PIMs.

It was actually a decent night for Ranger prospects as you can see right here

The Islander prospects also had another good night to be found here
