Wednesday night prospect hockey was a mixed bag for New York Ranger and New York Islander prospects but at least 1 prospect hit a career milestone.
Goalie Scott Stajcer (NYR 2009 5th) earned his 50th OHL career win leading his Owen Sound Attack to a 3-1 win over the Erie Otters. Stajcer named the game's first star stopped 32 out of the 33 shots he faced as to give the Attack their 4th straight win.
Stajcer who has been somewhat rotating the starting goalie job with Jordan Binnington had a shut out going until the Otters scored with 2:55 left in the game. Still Stajcer's numbers have been on the upswing as he evened his record at 3-3-1-1 with a 2.38 goals against and a 0.928 save percentage.
Brendan Kichton (NYI 2011 5th) set up Max Reinhart's shorthanded goal at 2:05 of the third period to help Team WHL defeat Team Russia 5-2 in game 5 of the Subway Super Series. The goal was the 4th of the game for Team WHL and broke the game open.
The Canadian teams improved to 2-2-0-1 in the series as Russia falls to 2-3-0-0 with the final game set for Thursday evening in Moose Jaw. Ranger prospects Dylan McIlrath (alternate captain) and Michael St. Croix will play for Team WHL who are offering a FREE webcast of the game.
Head over to right here as the game starts at 8PM EDT/ 5PM PDT
Steven Fogarty (2011 3rd) had a career best 3 assists as his Penticton Vees just whipped on the Trail Smoke Eaters 9-3. Fogarty is on a roll himself as this was his 3rd straight game with points and he has points in 8 out of his last 10 games.
Fogarty got things going when he set up Curtis Loik for the game's first goal at 5:31to make it 1-0 Vees. At 15:20 of the same period, the same duo combined on the Vee's 4th goal of the game (and eventual game winner) on the power play and a 4-1 Vee lead.
In the second period, Fogarty's 3rd assist was a secondary one but it also was on the power play and this one made the score 9-1 for the Vees. So much for worrying about whether Fogarty was going to be a consistent scorer as his numbers are just as high now as his fellow prospects from the 2011 draft class.
Here is how the 2011 Prospects are looking for the Rangers:
JT Miller - 11-14-25
Michael St. Croix - 7-15-22
Steve Fogarty - 9-12-21
Shane McColgan 7-13-20
Been doing since since 2004 and never once have I see a draft class produce like this.
Andrew Yogan (NYR 2010 3rd) had a goal but it was not enough to stop the Belleville Bulls from defeating his Peterborough Petes 6-3. Yogan's goal was his 7th of the season came at 19:24 of the 2nd period ending a 6 goal run by the Bulls.
Yogan has a 5 game scoring streak going (3-4-7) as he improves to 7-8-15 on the season. Teammate Peter Ceresnak (NYR 2011 6th) was scoreless and a -2 for the Petes along with a slashing minor to show for his night.
Finally Sam Noreau (NYR 2011 5th) was scoreless but registered 2 good hits as his Baie-Comeau Drakkar lost their 3rd straight game, this time 4-2 to the Quebec Remparts.
