Tis The Season

After a fun filled Friday evening,  Saturday was a good night if you are a New York Ranger fan but a mostly disappointing one for New York Islander fan.

Islander's  Star Corey Trivino

Corey Trivino (NYI 2008 2nd) might not want to be going on his holiday break the way he has been playing. The Boston University senior has been on a goal scoring tear including 2 big goals on Saturday against the Maine Black Bears.

Trivino scored BU's first and third goals as the Terrier whipped on the Black Bears 5-1. For Trivino the goals gave him 13 on the season but also a 4 game goal scoring streak as well as 10 goals in his last 10 games (Boston U is 7-3 in those games).

Rest of the Islander Prospects

Anders Lee (2009 6th) broke out of a 4 game scoreless streak with an assist while his 7th ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish ended a 4 game losing streak defeating 10th ranked Ferris State 4-1. Lee's 8th assist (12-8-20) of the season came on Notre Dame's first goal of the game and the Irish never trailed.

Teammate Robbie Russo (2011 4th) did not score in this game.

Jason Clark (2010 3rd) did not score as his Wisconsin Badgers lost to top ranked Minnesota-Duluth 4-2.

Brock Nelson (2010 1st) did not score as his North Dakota Fighting Sioux shut out Nebraska-Omaha 1-0.

Scott Mayfield (2011 2nd) did not score as his 7th ranked Denver Pioneers lost to Bemidji State 2-1.

Mitchell Theoret (2011 7th) did not score as his Niagara IceDogs lost to the Kingston Frontenacs 3-2.

Andrey Pedan (2011 3rd) did not score as his Guelph Storm lost to the Owen Sound Attack 6-1.

Now Ranger fans sorry about making you wait but we think this will make up for it,

Rangers First Star Michael St. Croix

Michael St. Croix (2011 4th) was another game another 1-2-3 evening as the leading scorer among Ranger prospects helped his Edmonton Oil Kings defeat the Prince Albert Raiders 5-3. The win was the 9th straight or the Oil Kings who lead the WHL's Eastern Conference with 45 points.

St. Croix's 17th goal of the season at 4:11 of the 2nd period broke a 1-1 tie and gave the Oil Kings the lead for good. St. Croix registered his first assist of the night on Edmonton's 4th goal at 12:13 of the 2nd period.

In the 3rd period, St. Croix's 2nd assist of the game came on Edmonton's 5th goal at 10:23. The 3 points not only earned St. Croix the game's 3rd star but at 17-29-46 besides leading Ranger prospects is 8th in the WHL.

Second Star JT Miller

JT Miller (2011 1st) is on a run of his own as he helped his Plymouth Whalers to a 4-1 win over the Sarina Sting. Miller had a goal and an assist to help the Whalers win their 4th straight game.

Miller's 26th assist of the season set up Garrett Meur's 14th goal of the season which broke a 1-1 tie. Miller added his 13th goal in the 3rd period on Plymouth's 4th goal.

Miller moves into 3rd among Ranger prospects with a 13-26-39 which leads his team and is good for 12th overall in the OHL.

The Rest of the Ranger Prospects

Scott Stajcer (2009 5th) stopped 26 out of 27 shots to help his Owen Sound Attack defeat the Guelph Storm 6-1. It was Stajcer's 5th win of the season as his goals against dropped to 2.35 and his save percentage improved to 0.930.

Samuel Noreau (2011 5th) scored his 3rd goal of the season as his Baie-Comeau Drakker shut out the Moncton Wildcats 4-0. Noreau scored the Drakkar's 3rd goal of the game as he improved his numbers to 3-9-12.

Steven Fogarty (2011 3rd) had an assist as his Penticton Vees won their 14th straight game 6-2 over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs. Fogarty is on a 4 game scoring streak (1-4-5) set up the Vee's 4th goal as he improved to 16-23-39.

What happens when the Ranger's shortest prospect goes up against the Ranger's biggest prospect? Why fights of course (but not with each other) as Shane McColgan (2011 5th) led his Kelowna Rockets into Moose Jaw to face Dylan McIlrath (2010 1st) and his Warriors.

As for the game, Moose Jaw jumped out to a 3-0 lead before McColgan scored a shorthanded goal for Kelowna's only goal as Moose Jaw won 4-1. McIlrath did not score in the game.

McColgan is 9-24-33 on the season but we know you want to see the fights so here are the links to the McColgan fight and the McIlrath fight.
