And They Are Off

With the World Under-20 Championships decided and everyone's holiday break over; then the second half of the 2011-2012 season got underway for New York Ranger and New York Islander prospects. Sluggish play would be the best way to talk about the overall play of the prospects

Islander Star - Ryan Strome

Ryan Strome (NYI 2011 1st) returned to the Niagara IceDog lineup on Saturday with a 1-2-3 performance earning him the game's first star as he led his IceDogs to a 4-2 win over the Sarnia Sting.

Strome set up the IceDogs first and second goals of the game then scored the IceDogs third himself for his 17th goal of the season. The goal also proved to be the game winner (Strome's 3rd) as Strome improves to 17-19-36 on the season.

Ranger Star- Danny Hobbs

Hockey East held "Frozen Fenway" on Saturday with Danny Hobbs (NYR 2007 7th) and his UMass Minutemen taking on Vermont. Hobbs and the Minutemen must like playing outdoors as they went to the last 22 seconds of overtime before winning 3-2.

Hobbs scored his 6th goal of the season and had a secondary assist on the game winner. For Hobbs it was his 5th multi-point game of the season.

Hobbs is 6-8-14 on the season as UMass improved to 7-8-5 on the season

The Ranger Prospects

Michael St. Croix (2011 4th) had both a primary and a secondary assist to help his Edmonton Oil Kings come from behind to defeat the Swift Current Broncos. St Croix extends his current scoring streak to 7 games (7-10-17) and is 4th in the WHL at 25-42-67.
