Just 3 games for the Ranger and Islander prospects on Saturday due in part to the OHL priority selection draft. Only 2 of the games involved playoffs as we had a split result for those taking part.
In Portland, Brenden Kichton (NYI 2011 5th) and his Spokane Chiefs were shut out by the Portland Winterhawks 3-0 in game 2 of their series. The story of this one was basically Portland goalie Mac Carruth who stopped all 27 shots he faced as Carruth won his 38th career WHL playoff game becoming the leader in that category.
Kichton was a non-factor as Portland clamped down on the Chiefs dominating play at both ends but the difference was the on-ice discipline the Winterhawks played with only giving the Chiefs 1 power play.
Portland takes a 2-0 series lead as the series shifts to Spokane for game's 3 and 4 on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. It would be a surprise if this sweeps goes more than 4 games as Spokane just doesn't have the horses at either end of the ice to stay with the Winterhawks.
In Baie-Comeau, the Drakkar made it a 2-0 series lead after defeating the Victoriaville Tigre 6-2. Samuel Noreau (NYR 2011 5th) was scoreless on 3 shots and took a roughing minor at the final buzzer.
Noreau was scoreless on 3 shots and even for the game. The Tigre got both of their goals off of power plays as they were 2 for 9 while the Drakkar were 2 for 7.
The series shifts to Victoriaville for game's 3 and 4 starting on Monday.
In the USHL, Jake Bischoff (NYI 2012 7th) hosted the Lincoln Stars on Saturday evening and came away with a 3-2 win. The Lancers who were eliminated from playoff contention on Friday night scored the game winner with under 90 seconds remaining in regulation.
Bischoff was scoreless a -1 on 2 shots as the Lancers will finish the regular season with a pair of games next weekend.
