So by now you have seen that the New York Rangers added another goalie to the system which in my eyes is a good move to force all of the goalies not named Lundqvist to work harder to keep his spot. I like the move because you are getting a goalie who unlike the other 3 goalie prospects in the system is a winner.

Add in the 2013 6th round pick in Mackenzie Skapski and the Rangers are finally starting to think about the future after Henrik Lundqvist. For the 2013-14 season, it means that the Rangers have one too many goalies unless they are able to put two in Greenville.

In any event I have pushed Malcolm already to 4th on the goalie depth charts past Scott Stajcer and Jason Missiaen.

Helped Lead Yale University to 2012-13 NCAA Championship

HARTFORD, July 23, 2013: Hartford Wolf Pack general manager Jim Schoenfeld announced today that the Wolf Pack has signed goaltender Jeff Malcolm from Yale University.

A 6-2, 185-pound native of Lethbridge, Alberta, Malcolm capped off a four-year Yale career this spring by backstopping the Elis to the first-ever “Frozen Four” title in school history. Malcolm finished with a flourish, posting a 36-save shutout in the Frozen Four Championship Game, in which Yale defeated in-state rival Quinnipiac, 4-0. That performance, plus a 16-save outing in a 3-2 overtime victory over U. Mass.-Lowell in the Frozen Four semifinals, earned the 24-year-old Malcolm Frozen Four All-Tournament Team honors.

During the 2012-13 regular season, Malcolm went 20-6-2 in 30 appearances for the Elis, with a 2.24 goals-against average, a 91.9% save percentage and three shutouts. Those numbers represented the second-highest single-season win total, the third-best save percentage and fourth-lowest GAA in Yale Men’s Hockey annals. Malcolm also finished second among ECAC goaltenders in wins and tied for third in shutouts.

In his four years at Yale, Malcolm appeared in 67 games, amassing a record of 36-21-4 with a 2.60 GAA, a 90.7% save percentage and six shutouts. Those stats rank him third all-time in school history in save percentage and wins and fourth in GAA.
