(USA Hockey) |
This week's action has a little for everyone as the Rangers have 2 prospects attending the USA camp, the Islanders are well represented with 4 prospects and the Portland Winterhawks represented by 3 players on the Team Canada roster.
The Rangers have Brady Skjei (Team Blue) and Cristoval "Boo" Nieves (Team White) trying to earn spots on the USA roster. Of the 2 I would say that Skjei has a better chance at making the USA squad but Nieves has proven that one should never count him out.
For the Islanders, they have Taylor Cammarata (2013 3rd) on the USA White roster, Ryan Pulock (2013 1st)and Adam Pelech (2012 3rd) playing for Canada with Ville Pokka (2012 2nd) playing for Finland.
The Winterhawks have Derrick Pouliot (Pittsburgh 2012 1st), Nick Petan (Winnipeg 2013 2nd) and Brendan Leipsic (Nashville 2012 3rd) as already mentioned on the Canadian roster. In case you were wondering Seth Jones will be attending the USA Olympic Orientation Camp which is why he is not at this camp.
Day one was a happy day for Islander fans as Ville Pokka had a 1-2-3 effort scoring the game winning goal just 41 seconds into overtime to give Finland a 6-5 win over USA Blue. Pokka also had an assist on the game tying goal which was scored with just 11 seconds remaining in regulation.
Neither Ranger prospect scored in their games and Canada did not play.
