Cuylle's Two Goal Night Is Not Enough For Spitfires

Will Cuylle (Tim Cornett)
Thursday evening had four New York Ranger prospects in action with some mixed results. Just two goals and a secondary assist to show for the night's efforts.

For two periods it looked as if Will Cuylle and his Windsor Spitfires were going to walk away from the Erie Otters. Cuylle had two goals as the Spitfires built a 4-1 lead after two periods but Erie came back with three goals in the third including the tying goal at 19:59 of the period.

Erie would then score the game-winner in overtime to earn a 5-4 win over the Spitfires. It ruined what was looking like a really good night for the Windsor captain who earned the game's second star.

Cuylle would get his Spitfires going when he and linemate Wyatt Johnson teamed up for the game's first goal. It was Cuylle's 16th goal of the season, an even-strength goal at 9:26 of the first period.

In the second with the game tied at 1-1, Cuylle would score his Ranger prospect's best 17th goal of the season, again off a feed from linemate Wyatt Johnson and Windsor would go up 2-1.

For Cuylle, the goals were his seventh and eighth goals in his last six games as he would improve his season totals to 17-5-22 after 20 games.

In Barrie, Evan Vierling was credited with the secondary assist on the overtime-winning goal as his Barrie Colts rallied from down 0-2 to earn a 3-2 win over the Hamilton Bulldogs. It was a rather quiet night for Vierling who only took one shot while going 12-8 on his faceoffs.

Vierling is 7-9-16 after 20 games.

Brennan Othmann was scoreless on just three shots as his Flint Firebirds shut out the Saginaw Spirit 3-0. For Othmann it ended a four-game run that saw him go 4-7-11 as he remains the leading scorer among Ranger prospects at 14-13-27 in just 18 games,

Ryder Korczak and his Moose Jaw Warrior teammates had a terrible evening as they were spanked by the Calgary Hitmen 7-1. Korczak was scoreless on three shots with a -4 and was 7-10 on his faceoffs.
