Got Hockey?

When people wonder why Prospect Park can't wait for Bobby Sanguinetti to get to New York we offer 2 pieces of evidence. First that the Rangers went 0 for 6 on the power play and second that Bobby Sanguinetti scored his 13th power play goal of the season in his game today against the London Knights.

Sanguinetti's goal was part of an 8 goal attack as the Brampton Battalion defeated the Knights 8-5 in OHL action. Sanguinetti's 21st goal of the season was part of a 5 goal second period as the Battalion broke open a 2-2 game.

For Sanguinetti and his Battalion teammates this win also brought about several different gifts starting with clinching a spot in the OHL playoffs. Toss in that it was also the Battalion's 6th straight win and first win over the Knights after 10 straight losses to them and you have a very happy team.

Sanguinetti is going to be featured in the next issue of the Blueshirt Bulletin so look for that as this has been one pretty good week for him.

The other night we joked that Antoine Lafleur was ready to play for the Rangers because he knew what it was like to play without any defensive support. What we did not realize was that our joke had a ton of truth behind it.

Watching Lafleur's Prince Edward Island Rocket lose today to the Lewiston MAINEaics was painful because the young goalie really was give so little defensive support.

It is hard to keep your team in games when you are facing odd man rushes or breakaways because of defensive breakdowns and that is exactly what went though as he was charged with the 4-2 loss to the MAINEaics.

Lafleur faced 42 shots today with 16 legit scoring chances. Lafleur also was credited with an assist on the Rocket's first goal of the game.

Lafleur's record falls to 11-16 on the season.

David Skokan by the numbers may not look like he had a good game but his Rimouski Oceanic's 5-2 win over the Acadie-Bathurst Titan says otherwise. Skokan did not score, was 6-8 on his face offs, did not register a hit but was a +2 as the Oceanic are now 7-3 in their last 10 games.

Eric Hunter's University of Albert Golden Bears already have first place in Canada West already clinched so as they traveled to Calgary to make up a game that was postponed from December they had nothing on the line. The result was a 2-1 loss for the Golden Bears as Hunter was scoreless.

Finally the Ohio Junior Bluejackets were without Danny Hobbs (out with an undisclosed illness) as their 4 game winning streak came to an end as they lost 4-2 to the Des Moines Buccaneers

Upcoming this week

This week we will be joining in fun that USA Hockey is calling Hockey Weekend Across America. There is a lot going to happen during this weekend including chances for 30 fans to win prizes of all types by entering here.

We will be listing all the events that will be happening all over the USA here at Prospect Park so check out what is happening.

Friday will kick off the weekend with "Wear your Jersey to School (we won't tell if you wear it to work)" as the theme is to wear your favorite hockey jersey from any team whether you played or just rooted to show your support of the game. We plan on wearing a Dubinsky Jersey with a Portland Winterhawks hat then switching off to other hats of teams that have provided tomorrow's Rangers to us.
