It is Middle of the Week Thoughts

Tysen Dowzak (2008 UFA) and his Kelowna Rockets spotted the Tri-City Americans a 2-0 lead then scored 3 unanswered goals in the 3rd period to win 3-2. Dowzak in fact assisted on the game's tying goal as well as being a +2 for the game.

Actually in truth the Rockets played all of 20 minutes worth of hockey in this game as they played a "Ranger" brand of hockey over the first 2 periods and tried to mail their effort in.

They got lucky here but they will not get away with some of the other teams they have to face.

Dowzak it appears is heeding the words of Rocket GM Bruce Hamilton who prior to the WHL trade deadline called out his blueliners saying that he was wanting more out of them. We agree as if Dowzak wants another shot at Hartford this season then he needs to step it up.

It is frustrating when you see a player like Dowzak who has huge size, smarts and a sense for the game not use all of his gifts every night. Maybe it is the size of 6'5 as we this same maddening inconsistency from Antoine Lafleur as well.

When we watch Dowzak, we see a player who if he ever puts it together could give the Rangers that badly needed stay at home stopper with the physical edge.

Victor Fernandes is reporting that the Erie Otters are waiting on the Ranger doctors to give their approval on Mitch Gaulton's (2008 6th) elbow. Fernandes in his blog reported that Erie GM Sherry Bassin says that Erie doctors have cleared Gaulton to play but are awaiting confirmation from the Ranger doctors as well.

So last week at this time Michael Del Zotto (2008 1st) was playing for the Oshawa Generals who have the 11th best record in the OHL. Wonder how he felt when he saw this weeks CHL Mastercard Top Ten poll which has his new team the London Knights as the 5th best team in all of the CHL.

Bet that smile could light up several cities.

We have this from the OHL which we can not help but to think is a reaction to the recent death of Senior AAA player Don Sanderson:

“If a player should remove his helmet or undo his chinstrap prior to or during an altercation, such player shall receive a game misconduct in addition to any other penalties assessed and an automatic one (1) game suspension. If a player should remove his helmet or undo his chinstrap prior to entering into an altercation, and his opponent does not remove his helmet, the player removing his helmet shall receive a two minute minor penalty, a game misconduct penalty in addition to any other penalties assessed and an automatic one (1) game suspension.

If a player should remove an opponent’s helmet or undo an opponent’s chinstrap prior to or during an altercation, such player shall receive an automatic game misconduct penalty in addition to any other penalties assessed and a one (1) game suspension.

If during the course of an altercation a player or player’s helmets should become dislodged, the linesmen are to intervene immediately”.

To be fair, there will be no comment from us until you folks decide what you think

Finally we got to point out one of our favorites The Dark Ranger who had us dying of laughter with a picture of Crosby in a crib.
