Strange Sunday

For the New York Ranger and New York Islander prospects, Sunday was a really strange but productive Sunday for teams in the hunt for playoff spots.

Rangers

Dan Maggio scored his 2nd goal of the season, added  a secondary assist to help Oshawa to a 5-4 win over the Belleville Bulls. Christian Thomas was scoreless for just 2nd time in last 11 games as Generals have 6 games to erase 5 point lead that Ottawa has.

Ethan Werek was scoreless, missed shootout attempt as his Kingston Frontenacs lost in shoot out 5-4. Fronts have only 4 point lead to keep 5th seed spot in OHL Eastern Conference.

Andrew Yogan's 1st point of year set up game winner as Erie Otters defeat Sarina 8-2. Yogan was also +3

Roman Horak a secondary assist as his Chilliwack Bruins won their 5th straight defeating Portland 6-2.  Bruins have gone from 9th place in WHL Western Conference to 6th as Horak earned his 70th point.

Ryan Bourque had 2 assists to lead Quebec to big 5-2 win over Drummondville. Bourque assisted on 1st  and 3rd goals (game winner) for a 5 game scoring streak as Quebec passes Drummondville in QMJHL standings.

Islanders

Nino Niederreiter has 5 game goal scoring streak (9 goals) to tie what he did last season 36 goals in 16 fewer games. Nino also bests last season's point output by 1 now. Portland loses to Chilliwack to end 4 game win streak.

Casey Cizikas missed 2nd straight game due to wrist injury return is unknown but 6 games left and 10 point lead no need to rush him back.

Corey Rosen becomes first prospect to have season end after Clarkson was eliminated in ECAC playoffs last night.

If you are a Ranger fan after watching Sunday's win over the Flyers, you have wonder why the Rangers do not play like that all the time. The win was easy to figure out, the Ranger kept skating which opened up scoring chances that they cashed in on.

Only downer of game is watching the constant "Screw Avery" job that refs and NHL pull. Here is my question if Avery kicked puck him then why was it not a call since only reason he had leg that high up was be was being pulled down.

If it is not a goal then it has to be a penalty on the Flyers but cause it is Sean Avery it winds up as neither.
