Tuesday night saw a New York Ranger and a New York Islander in action but with differing results despite both games winding up with a 4-3 final score. Both prospects had quiet games as their teams are heading in different directions.
First Dylan McIlrath (NYR 2010 1st) and his Moose Jaw Warriors were facing the Swift Current Broncos for the first time since early in the season (teams split 4 games 2-2). It was a quiet evening for McIlrath as he was held scoreless and other than a holding call spent most of the night clearing out rebounds.
For the Warriors, the win keeps them in the hunt for the 3rd seed in the WHL's Eastern Conference with 62 points. The teams they are fighting with for the spot (Kootenay and Medicine Hat) have games in hand.
On the other side, David Toews (NYI 2008 3rd) and his Brandon Wheat Kings were on the wrong end of their 4-3 score losing to the Lethbridge Hurricanes. The Hurricanes and Wheat Kings along with the Prince Albert Raiders and Regina Pats are all fighting for the 8th and final spot in the WHL's Eastern Conference.
While Toews had a quiet night, his Wheat Kings dug themselves a 3-0 first period hole that they could not come back from. The Wheat Kings got in the 2nd period thanks to a pair of shorthanded goals but could not get the tying goal.
The loss leaves the Wheat Kings in 11th place 3 points out of 8th but with the other 3 teams all having games in hand.
