School Is Very Much In Session

They call it the Ice Breaker Tournament but for a New York Islander and New York Ranger, it was showtime. With close to 20 prospects playing on Friday night we brought back the duo pages for the first time this season.

First Star Brock Nelson

If you are an Islander fan and you keep hearing about Ryan Strome and Nino Niederreiter then might we suggest you add a 3rd name in Brock Nelson. Of the 3 most recent New York Islander first round picks, Nelson just might wind up being the best of the trio.

To get corny, Nelson shot down the Air Force with a 2-1-3 effort to help his 3rd ranked North Dakota Fighting Sioux avoid a major upset with a come from behind 4-3 win.

The win sets up what should be a very entertaining Islander/Ranger prospect match up on Saturday night with the Ranger prospect first star Chris Kreider and his 5th ranked Boston College Eagles.

The details on Nelson's very nice performance and the rest of the Islander prospect's Friday night efforts can be found right here. Give the Islanders good marks for their play on Friday night.

First Star Chris Kreider

There is a reason why the Rangers were just about begging Chris Kreider to leave Boston College during the off-season. This is the person that they think will be the answer to "who should be the left wing for Richards and Gaborik?"

Here is why we laugh when someone tries to question Chris Kreider's hockey sense; you try to stop him when he has the puck and room to skate. Ask the poor guys on Michigan State who thought they were going to upset Kreider's 5th ranked Boston College Eagles.

Kreider set up 1 goal then scored a back breaking goal himself that turned out to be the game winner to help Boston College escape Michigan State 5-2.  Kreider people forget is just 2 years removed from playing HS hockey and he is not playing for just any program in college hockey.

If you have Direct TV then 7:30 Central Time on CH 617 watch Kreider yourself in a huge game against Brock Nelson and North Dakota. Winner of that game is only going to wind up as the number 1 team in college hockey when new poll comes out.

Kreider and the rest of the Ranger prospects are right here.
