Yikes Wednesday was not a nice day for the New York Ranger or New York Islander prospects (or the guy who writes about them) as the only one who got to win did so by beating another prospect. It was very much a strange day but that is how things sometimes happen.
Mackenzie Skapski (NYR 2013 6th) saw his 10 game winning streak come to an end as his Kootenay Ice fell to Kyle Burroughs (NYI 2013 7th) and his Regina Pats 3-2. Skapski stopped 28 out of 31 shots but it just wasn't his night as Regina jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead and held on for the win. While Kootenay saw their 6 game winning streak end, there is no shame in this loss on the road as right now the middle of the WHL's Eastern Conference is so wide open that one should expect to see everyone beating on each.
Burroughs was scoreless with a +1 as his Pats moved to within 1 point of East Division leading Swift Current and ahead of 7th place Brandon (more on them in a second). Skapski falls to 21-14-2-1 2.69 goals against and 0.918 save percentage as he lost for the first time since January 8th.
Now let us see how Skapski responds to this loss.
The Brandon Wheat Kings have picked the wrong time of the season to go into a slump as Ryan Pulock's (NYI 2013 1st) team lost to the team with the 2nd worst record in the WHL the Lethbridge Hurricanes 3-2 in overtime. Pulock was scoreless as the Wheat King captain has just 2 points in his last 7 games and the Wheat Kings need more than that from their captain.
The loss drops Brandon to 7th place in the WHL's Eastern Conference and they are winless in their last 3.
Griffin Reinhart (NYI 2012 1st) was "under the weather" which was why he was not in the Edmonton Oil King's lineup as they hosted the Prince Albert Raiders. By the end of the night it was the Oil Kings who were sick as they saw their 11 game winning streak ended 4-3. The team with the best record in the WHL's Eastern Conference lost to the 9th place team in the conference.
Hope Reinhart gets well quick.
