Brody Lamb (Green Bay Gamblers) |
Lamb had what turned out to be the game-winning goal as his Green Bay Gamblers earned a 5-2 win over the Madison Capitols in USHL action. It was Lamb's third straight game with a goal and second game-winner in his last three.
The young forward had gone ten straight games without a goal but he was moved up to the top line before the holiday break and has responded with a 4-1-5 in his last five games. It has been a good thing to see as Lamb choose to play an extra year in the USHL rather than attend the University of Minnesota which at the time raised some questions.
But given his recent play, the decision is helping everyone involved as Lamb has overcome a slow start of 2-5-7 in his first 20 games to 7-6-13 after 25 games. Against Madison, Lamb broke a 2-2 tie with an even-strength goal at 19:39 of the second period.
Let's hope Lamb can keep this up over the second half of the USHL season.
Dylan Garand (Kamloops Blazers) |
A shaky beginning saw Garand stop just 8 of 9 shots in the first period, 11 of 12 in both the second and third periods while not facing a shot in overtime, and then the two stops in the shootout. Garand with the win improves to 16-4 on the season with a 1.90 goals against and a 0.930 save percentage.
The newly signed Garand leads the WHL in wins (16), save percentage (0.930), and is second in goals against (1.90). Garand has two shutouts on the season as well.
In a battle of 2021 third-round draft picks, selection number 75 Ryder Korczak and his Moose Jaw Warriors got the better of selection number 65 Jayden Grubbe and his Red Deer Rebels 4-3 in overtime. Both prospects recorded an assist but Korczak continued his dominance on faceoffs going 11-5 to Grubbe's 11-12.
Matt Rempe and his Seattle Thunderbirds ran into a hot Portland Winterhawks goalie and were shut out 1-0. Rempe and his teammates could not solve Winterhawks goalie Dante Giannuzzi who stopped all 19 Thunderbird shots.
Rempe didn't record any shots and was 5-5 on face-offs.
Did Not Play
Will Cuylle and his Windsor Spitfires were supposed to face Brennan Othmann's Flint Firebirds but Covid go in the way and the game was postponed.
Evan Vierling and his Barrie Colts are still paused from any hockey activity and saw their game also postponed.
