Hugo Ollas (Merrimack College) |
Only a power-play goal in the second period prevented Ollas from recording a shutout and give his teammates some credit for blowing out Brown with the seven-goal output. Ollas is now 3-3 with a goals-against of 2.79 and a save percentage of 0.894.
Tayln Boyko made his seventh-straight start in goal for his Kelowna Rockets but saw his five-game winning streak come to an end as the Rockets fell in overtime to the Vancouver Giants 4-3. The Rockets looked like a tired hockey team playing their fourth game in a week.
Kelowna started off strong scoring twice in the first period as Boyko allowed one goal on eight shots. After that, the game was pretty much dominated by the Giants as Boyko gave up two goals on 13 shots in the second, no goals on nine shots in the third, and the game-winner in overtime on four shots.
In the meantime, his Rockets could only manage three shots in the second, eight shots in the third, and none in overtime. Boyko saw his record fall to 11-10-2-1 with a goals-against of 3.31 and a save percentage of 0.907.
Simon Kjellberg (Rensselaer Hockey) |
Kjellberg fired a shot from the point during a power play to score and give his team a 1-0 lead. If Kjellberg has any dream of earning an NHL contract, he has to start using that shot of his more often.
Two shots a game just isn't going to cut it as Kjellberg was 1-0-1 on two shots with a -2 and a minor for cross-checking at 19:25 of the third period. Kjellberg's goal tied his freshman numbers as he improved to a new career-high of 5-8-13.
Hank Kempf and his ninth-ranked Cornell "Big Red" suffered their second straight loss to the Arizona Sun Devils 3-2 in non-conference action. Kempf was scoreless with a -2 as Cornell heads back home to resume ECAC play
Did Not Play
Will Cuylle's Windsor Spitfires remain "paused" from hockey activities due to OHL Covid protocols. Hopefully, the team will be allowed to resume hockey activities sometime this week.
