A Day Late But Still A good Report

Evan Vierling (Barrie Colts)
Evan Vierling broke open a 0-0 tie with a goal at 18:31 and then added an empty-net goal to lead his Barrie Colts to a 2-0 win over the Mississauga Steelheads.

It was Vierlings first two goals of the season and helped his Barrie Colts win their first game of the season. For Vierling, the first goal was the result of a "2-on-2" odd-man rush as he fired a shot past the Steelhead goalie's glove side.

The other goal was all Vierling as he stole the puck clean from a Steelhead defender, skated into the offensive zone, and fired a shot into the empty net.

The goals as well as some solid play on the defensive side helped Vierling earn the game's second star. Vierling improves to 2-1-3 after four games.

Dylan Garand must not have liked the criticism that was sent his way yesterday. The Vancouver Giants really didn't like it as Garand and the Kamloops Blazers shut them out 5-0 for his first shutout of the year.

The game's first star, Garand had it easy as his Blazers got him the only goal he needed just 87 seconds into the contest then another at 5:49 still in the first. It was 3-0 after one and Garand cruised from there.

The Rangers' 4th-round selection in the 2020 draft stopped 23 shots to earn his 9th WHL career shutout. With the win, Garand improves to 4-1 on the season lowering his goals against to 2.42 and improving his save percentage to 0.908.

Ryder Korczak continued his hot play with his second goal of the season but his Moose Jaw Warriors fell to the Saskatoon Blades 4-3. Korczak got his Warriors going when he fired an off-balance shot that beat the Blades goalie clean.

It gave the Warriors a 1-0 lead that they would lose 61 seconds later. Korczak played decently going 1-0-1 on three shots with a +1 and a 17-10 record on his faceoffs. The kid is red hot with a 2-6-8 record after six games.

Korczak has points in all six of the games he has played in and two multi-game scoring streaks going.

In Portland, Tayln Boyko tried his best to carry his Tri-City Americans against the Portland Winterhawks and for two periods did a great job. But in the third, Portland was just too much for the Americans as they rallied from down 3-1 to earn a 4-3 win.

Felt bad for Boyko as he held Portland at bay including a nice stop on a penalty shot as part of 24 saves on 25 shots. In the third, Portland dominated scoring three times on 14 shots to steal the win.

For Boyko, it was his second straight frustrating loss and there are going to be many more to come. His backup is injured for Boyko is going to see a ton of ice time.

As for the other Try-City is one of the youngest teams in the WHL dressing four fifteen-year-olds. Boyko 1-3 with a 3.93 goals against and a 0.886 save percentage.

Jason Grubbe was held scoreless as his Red Deer Rebels got shut out by the Calgary Hitmen 2-0. Quite the turnaround from last night's 8-1 spanking.

Grubbe was scoreless on four shots with a minor for high sticking and was 14-9 on his face-offs.

Brett Bedard scored his prospect leading fifth goal but it wasn't enough as 10th-ranked Providence Friars dropped their second straight, 3-2 to the fifth-ranked Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs. Bedard was 1-0-1 on one shot with a -2

Overall Bedard is 5-2-7 after five games, he is the leading scorer for the Friars

Matt Rempe and his Seattle Thunderbirds were shut out by the Everett Silvertips 3-0. Rempe was credited with two shots while going 9-10 on face-offs.

Simon Kjellberg had a primary assist but it wasn't enough. Kjellberg's Rensselaer Engineers lost to the Canisius Golden Griffins 3-2 in overtime.

Kjellberg is 1-1-2 after three games on three shots with a +1

DID NOT PLAY.

Hugo Ollas dressed but did not play for his Merrimack Warriors.

Eric Ciccolini for his third-ranked Michigan Wolverines
