Brennan Othmann (Natalie Shaver) |
For the first half of the game, Othmann tried to help the Otters. Othmann took a roughing minor at 3:29 of the first followed by an "illegal equipment" minor at 15:53 still in the first. In the second, Orthmann was called for "blindsiding" at 8:04.
After finishing his time in the penalty box, Orthmann got on the scoreboard with his 4th goal of the season at 10:33. The goal gave Flint a 3-1 lead and would prove to be the game-winner. Orthmann's second straight game-winner.
Orthman was not done as he set up Braden Kressler for Flint's fourth goal at 17:50 of the second. Orthman is now 4-4-8 after six games this season.
Will Cuylle (OHL Images) |
Cuylle with his fifth and sixth goals of the season improved to 6-2-8 in nine games.
Jayden Grubbe was scoreless on six shots as his Red Deer Rebels defeated the Edmonton Oil Kigs 4-3 in overtime. Strange day for Ranger prospects as they got called for everything as Grubbe drew a minor for a face-off violation.
Grubbe was also a -1 but was 12-8 on his face-offs.
Goalie Tayln Boyko earned first star of the game honors despite his Tri-City Americans dropping a 3-2 overtime decision to Matt Rempe's Seattle Thunderbirds. Boyko deserved the honor after being the only reason as to why Tri-City even made it to the overtime period.
Seattle dominated the game outshooting the Americans 50-21. After the first period, Boyko faced 34 shots to his team only getting 11 shots on Seattle. Put Boyko on any other team and he would have way better numbers than what he does.
Boyko falls to 1-5 on the season with a 4.41 goals against and a 0.891 save percentage. For the Thunderbirds, Matt Rempe's game isn't well represented on the stat sheet as he was scoreless on three shots, a -1 and 12-6 on his faceoffs.
Goalie Dylan Garand and his Kamloops Blazers traveled to Prince George to take on the Prince George Cougars in WHL action. Garand it could be said had an easy time of it stopping 27 out of 28 shots as Kamloops defeated Prince George 4-1.
I say it was an easy night for Garand because his teammates out-shot the Cougars 49-28. Give a lot of the credit to the guys in front of Garand who made sure that there were no second chance shots, no screens and no odd man rushes for Garand to face.
Garand improves to 7-1 on the season, he lowered his goals against to 2.26 and improved his save percentage to 0.912.
Simon Kjellberg had a secondary assist as his Rensselaer Engineers shut out the Union Dutchmen to sweep the weekend series. Kjellberg took one shot and earned a minor for interference as he improved to 2-3-5 in seven games.
Rensselaer improves to 4-2-1 for the season,
Riley Hughes was scoreless as his Northeastern Huskies edged the Maine Black Bears 3-2. Hughes didn't register a point but led his teammates with five shots,'
Northeastern improves to 5-3 on the season.
Brett Berard and his eighth-rank Providence Friars lost in overtime to the New Hampshire Wildcats 2-1. Berard was held scoreless on just one shot with a -1 and a minor for hooking.
Hank Kempf was scoreless on one shot as his Cornell Big Red" made it two straight over the Alaska Nanooks, this time 1-0. Other than that it was a quiet night for the freshman defender making just his second NCAA start.
Evan Vierling was held scoreless and 6-9 on faceoffs as his Barrie Colts were beaten 8-3 by the North Bay Battalion. The less said about this game the better.
Brody Lamb was scoreless as his Green Bay Gamblers lost to the Madison Capitals 4-2 in USHL action. Lamb was credited with one shot and was a -1 with a roughing minor
