Ryder Korczak (Moose Jaw Warriors) |
Korczak had a season-best 1-2-3 to earn the second-star honors as his Moose Jaw Warriors ended a four-game losing streak with a 4-3 overtime win over the Medicine Hat Tigers. Korczak it seems was involved in everything that the Warriors did.
For the game, Korczak was 1-2-3 on three shots and was 22-9 on his faceoffs.
What would be a prospect report without a Brett Berard highlight? The right-wing for the eighth-ranked Providence Friars extended his point-scoring streak to eight games with an unassisted goal that also turned out to be the game-winning goal.
The goal (starts at 0:38 on the clip) was Berard cleaning up a mistake by the other team as he picked up a loose puck behind the New Hampshire net. Before anyone could realize what had happened, Berard had already scored.
For the game, Berard was 1-0-1 with a +2 on five shots. The goal gives Berard a team-leading 7-4-11 in eight games. The seven goals are tied with five others for second in the NCAAs and 10th overall in points,
Berard is fourth in game-winners with two, seventh in power-play goals with three, and the 11 points are a new career best. And to think he has done all this in just eight games.
Berard's Friars the New Hampshire Wildcats 6-1 to improve to 6-2 on the season and 3-0 in the Hockey East.
Brennan Othmann scored his third goal of the season (check the goal out) with just 31 seconds remaining in regulation to give his Flint Firebirds a 2-1 win over the Erie Otters. The win improved the Firebirds to 3-2 on the season.
For Othmann, the goal improved his season numbers to 3-3-6 in just five games. The numbers may not be earth-shattering but what they are consistent,
Riley Hughes scored his first goal of the season as his Northeastern Huskies defeated the Maine Black Bears 5-0 in Hockey East action. For Hughes, it was part of a two-point night for the junior forward who finally scored in his seventh game of the season.
Hughes got started with a secondary assist on the Huskies' first goal of the game. In the third with his team already up 3-0 and on the penalty kill, Hughes took advantage of some very sloppy play to score. (1:03 on the clip). A mixup between the Maine goalie and one of his teammates left Hughes with the puck and an empty net to shoot at.
For Hughes, it gave him a 1-1-2 game on three shots with a +2 as he went 0-1 on the only face-off he took
Simon Kjellberg (RPI) |
For the junior defenseman, it was his second goal of the season as Rensselaer opened ECAC conference play with a win. Kjellberg for the game was 1-0-1 on three shots with a +1 to improve to 2-2-4 after 6 games.
Matt Rempe may not have scored but his play was a huge 180 improvement from Wednesday's efforts for his Seattle Thunderbirds as they spanked the Spokane Chiefs 4-1. Rempe was physical at both ends of the ice and that created both space and turnovers for his teammates.
Rempe led his Thunderbirds with six shots on goal and was 10-6 on faceoffs. If he plays like this all season then he just might earn that entry-level contract.
Evan Vierling was scoreless as his Barrie Colts rallied from down 0-2 to defeat the Mississauga Steelheads in overtime. Vierling took just one shot and was 7-6 on his faceoffs.
Brody Lamb (Green Bay Gamblers) |
The Capitals outplayed the Gamblers for most of the game but not on the scoreboard as the puck went in for the Gamblers and not the Capitals. In addition to the assist, Lamb was only credited with just one shot.
On the season after playing eight games, Lamb is fourth in scoring with a 2-2-4 mark for Green Bay.
Goalie Dylan Garand stopped 15 out of 16 shots as his Kamloops Blazers whipped the Victoria Royals 7-1. Garand really wasn't tested in this one as other than a power-play goal in the first, he got to watch his teammates have their way with the Royals.
Garand improved to 6-1 with one shutout and a 2.44 goals against with a 0.903 save percentage. His six wins are second-best among goalies in the WHL.
Freshman defenseman Hank Kempf made his official NCAA debut as his 15th-ranked Cornell "Big Red" defeated the Alaska Nanooks in their season opener. Other than a -1 Rempf didn't record a stat.
Did Not Play
Hugo Ollas dressed but remained on the bench as a backup goalie for his Merrimack Warriors.
Eric Ciccolini was a healthy scratch for the Michigan Wolverines' third time in four games.
