Brett Bedard (Providence) |
One of the Ranger's two 2020 fifth-round picks Brett Bedard saw his 11th-ranked Providence Friars earn a 5-2 win over the Merrimack Warriors in the Hockey East opener for both teams. Bedard had a pretty good game recording two secondary assists to help his Friars improve to 2-0 on the season.
For the game, Bedard was 0-2-2 with four shots, a minor for roughing, one blocked shot, and a +1 for the game. Bedard is off to a good start to his season as he is 2-2-4 after two games.
2020 second-round draft pick Will Cuylle was playing in his first OHL game since the end of the 2019-20 season. The OHL did not play at all and Cuylle spent last season with the Hartford Wolfpack of the AHL.
Thursday night wasn't the most ideal of performances by his Windsor Spitfires as they dropped their season/home opener to the Sarnia Sting 6-3. Cuylle had a primary assist on the Spitfires' second goal of the game as he made a nice pass into the slot area that Pasquale Zito deflected into the Sting goal to tie the game at 2-2.
One of Windsor's assistant captains, Cuylle was the first line left-wing and he had a game-high nine shots and was a -2 overall. Cuylle is 6'4 210 who despite being a big player has some very soft hands and has an excellent on-ice vision to go along with a very physical game.
2020 fifth-round selection Evan Vierling was scoreless on one shot as his Barrie Colts dropped a 4-1 decision to the Niagara Ice Dogs in their season/home debut. Vierling is a center who was 10-7 on his face-offs but was otherwise quiet in his season debut.
Vierling is 6'0 176 who is solid on his face-offs but needs to add lower body strength to his frame if he wants to be an NHL center.
Goalie Hugo Ollas (2020 seventh) dressed but did not play for his Merrimack Warriors.
