Will Cuylle (Windsor Spitfires
Will Cuylle (Windsor Spitfires)
There are times when I think there are always exceptions to the rule. In this case the rule that says a junior player needs to be age 20 to play in the AHL should not apply to Will Cuylle (2020 second).  After spending last season playing with the Hartford Wolfpack, Cuylle should be playing in the AHL not in the juniors with the Windsor Spitfires of the OHL.

Take the time and go check out this game winner from Will Cuylle.

Will Cuylle Game winner

It is a shame that Cuylle isn't with the Wolfpack right now advancing his development but Ranger fans are going to love this hard-nosed player who gives his all on every shift. For the game, Cuylle was credited with eight shots on goal giving him 17 in two games.

Windsor gets their first win of the season thanks to Cuylle's first goal of the season as he improves to 1-1-2.

The more I watch center Ryder Korczak (2021 third), the more I like him. Korczak isn't the biggest dog out there and is listed as a generous 6' 173 but he plays much bigger than his stats say he is.

The Moose Jaw center had a solid game with a primary assist on his team's second goal as they held off whiz kid Connor Bedard's Regina Pats 3-2. Bedard set up Cade Hayes for a goal with just six seconds remaining in the first period to give his team at the time a 2-1 lead.

Overall besides the assist, Korczak was credited with six shots on goal, a +1 and was 19-9 on his faceoffs as Moose Jaw improves to 2-1 on the season. For the season, Korczak is 0-4-4, +3 and 42-32 on faceoffs (56.7% win rate)

Forward Brody Lamb (2021 fourth) and his Green Bay Gamblers (USHL) jumped out to a 5-0 lead after one period then held on for a 6-3 win over Cedar Rapids. Lamb had the only assist on the Gambler's sixth goal, an empty-net goal that clinched the win for the Gamblers.

For Lamb, the assist improved his season numbers to 1-3-4 after four games. The young forward who has a signed letter of intent to play for Minnesota in the NCAA is spending this season in the USHL.

Defenseman Simon Kjellberg (2018 sixth) and his Rensselaer Engineers opened their season with a 2-2 non-conference overtime tie with Bowling Green. Kjellberg was scoreless with no shots and just one blocked shot to show for his season's debut.

Kjellberg is a junior as a student but a sophomore as a player as his school did not play last season due to the pandemic. He is still in my eyes a good defensive prospect as he plays a very smart game even if the numbers aren't always there.

Center Jayden Grubbe (2021 third) had a pretty rough game as his Red Deer Rebels fell to the Medicine Hat Tigers 4-2. Grubbe was scoreless on two shots but a -3 and 9-12 on face-offs.

Grubbe and Red Deer are 2-2-0 after four WHL games.

I watched center Matt Rempe (2020 sixth) and his Seattle Thunderbirds take on the Spokane Chiefs and to be honest this was an ugly one. Seattle won 5-3 with Rempe going scoreless but I don't think either team or the on-ice officials had a good game.

Both teams played as if they were sleepwalking as this was like watching a bunch of oversized kids playing peewee hockey. Rempe was a step slow in this game, scoreless on three shots with a -1 and 11-13 on faceoffs.

Right-wing Riley Hughes (2018 seventh) was scoreless as his 16th-ranked Northeastern Huskies shut out Holy Cross 3-0 to improve to 2-0 on the season. Hughes took two shots and was credited with a +1 for the game.

Hughes, it is hard to look at him as a legit NHL prospect at this point in time. Unless he has some sort of major breakthrough season this season, he isn't going to be offered an NHL ELC.

Eric Ciccolini (2019 seventh) was scoreless as his third-ranked Michigan Wolverines handed  Lake Superior State a 6-1 spanking. The non-conference contest was the season opener for the Wolverines with Ciccolini starting as the second line right wing.

Ciccolini was scoreless on one shot with three minors with the second one leading to Lake Superior State's only goal. For Ciccolini, he is starting his junior season and at this point in time, it is hard to see him as a legit Ranger's prospect.
