Cuylle Shows The Way For Windsor Comeback Win

Will Cuylle earned the second star of the game honors as his Windsor Spitfires came from behind to defeat the Erie Otters 3-2 in overtime. Trailing 2-0 in the third period and with Erie on a power play, Cuylle got the comeback going when he took a feed from a faceoff and one-timed it past the Erie goalie.

The goal was Cuylle's seventh and first shorthanded goal of the season coming at 10:20. His team would tie the game 12 seconds later and win it in overtime.

Cuylle took six shots and was a +3 on the game as he is now 7-2-9 on the season.

Freshman goalie Hugo Ollas earned his first NCAA win stopping 27 out of 30 shots for his Merrimack Warriors as they defeated 15th-ranked Boston College 4-3. It was just Ollas second NCAA start and this one was on the road.

Ollas would give up one goal in the first period while facing just five shots. In the second period, Ollas would stop 11 out of 13 shots to keep the game tied at 3-3.

In the third, it would be Ollas who would steal the show as he stopped all 12 shots that he faced including two in the game's final moments when Boston College pulled their goalie for an extra attacker.

For his Merrimack Warriors, Ollas gave them their first win on Boston College ice since 2017 and broke a seven-game losing streak that the Warriors had with Boston College.

With his first win, Ollas evens his season record at 1-1 with a 2.43 goals against and a 0.919 save percentage.

Ryder Korczak had a goal as his Moose Jaw Warriors needed overtime to defeat the Medicine Hat Tigers 3-2. Korczak scored the Warriors' first goal of the game as he came into the offensive zone and fired a shot from the top of the slot that beat the Tigers goalie over his shoulder.

The goal was Korczak's sixth of the season and extends Korczak's scoring streak to four games (2-5-7). On the night Korczak was credited with four shots with a +2 and was 14-15 on his faceoffs.

Korczak leads all Ranger prospects with a 6-11-17 mark.

Brennan Othmann set up what proved to be the game-winning goal as his Flint Firebirds handed the London Knights their first loss of the season 3-2. Othmann fed Riley Piercey for a power-play goal in the second period which broke a 2-2 tie and gave the Firebirds their first and only lead of the night.

Othmann saw his four-game goal-scoring streak come to an end but extended his point-scoring streak to nine games. Othmann once again led his team in shots on goal as he was credited with seven to go along with a -1.

Overall, Othmann is now 8-4-12 for the season.

Riley Hughes had a secondary assist as his Northeastern Huskies finished off a weekend sweep of the New Hampshire Wildcats 4-1. For Hughes it was his third assist of the weekend and improved his season totals to 1-4-5.

Northeastern has won four straight and Hughes has recorded all his points during this winning streak after going scoreless in his first six games of the season.

Brett Berard and his eighth-ranked Providence Friars dropped their third straight 5-1 to 12th-ranked Massachusetts. Berard earned a primary assist on the Friars only goal to improve his season totals to 7-5-12.

Defenseman Simon Kjellberg was scoreless as his Rensselaer Engineers defeated Clarkson in ECAC action 3-1. Kjellberg was credited with four blocked shots in the game.

Defenseman Hank Kempf earned his first point at the NCAA level as his 14th-ranked Cornell Big Red defeated Dartmouth 5-4 in ECAC/Ivy League action. Kempf was credited with a secondary assist on Ben Berard's second goal of the game and Cornell's fourth.

Kempf was also credited with two shots and one blocked shot in the win.

Brody Lamb was scoreless on two shots as his Green Bay Gamblers lost in the shootout to the Madison Capitals 3-2.

Did Not Play

Forward Matt Rempe of the Seattle Thunderbirds was given a TBD suspension by the WHL after they reviewed a play in Friday's game against Tri-City. According to Thom Buenning who is the voice of the Thunderbirds:

Before the game, the WHL handed Seattle’s Matt Rempe a TBD suspension. The league made the decision after reviewing a play in Friday night’s 5-3 T-birds win in Kennewick. Originally there was no penalty called on the play in question. As a result, Rempe was not in the lineup for Seattle Saturday.

I was told that Rempe who got into a fight apparently did something that wasn't called but upon a league review, the WHL decided to suspend the 6'8 forward. Considering what others do, this one is weak.

Goalie Talyn Boyko got the night off and was the backup goalie for his Tri-City Americans.

Goalie Dylan Garand also got the night off and was the backup goalie for the Kamloops Blazers.

Forward Eric Ciccolini of Michigan is out for the season with a lower-body injury.
