Will Cuylle's Three Points Leads Ranger Prospect Night

New York Ranger fans are not the only ones wishing that Will Cuylle was playing for Hartford in the AHL instead of Windsor in the OHL. So are many a team in the OHL as Cuylle is really starting to heat things up.

On Friday night, Cuylle recorded his third two-goal night helping his Windsor Spitfires earn a 7-3 win over the Sarnia Sting. It was part of a three-point night for the power forward as he helped his team win their third straight game.

Cuylle got his scoring starting with the primary assist on what proved to be the game-winning goal. In the second period with his team on the power-play, Cuyllle called for the puck at the goal line.

He barely had it as he sent it right to teammate Kyle McDonald who scored Windsor's fourth goal of the night. In the third with his team up 4-2, Cuylle would score his first goal of the night when he tipped in a pass from the point to give his team a 5-2 lead.

It was a power-play goal, Cuylle's eighth of the season and second power-play goal. Still, in the third with his team up 6-3, Cuylle put the finishing touches on the game when he cashed in a rebound for a goal.

It was another power-play goal and Cuylle's ninth goal of the season. Cuylle improves his overall numbers to 9-3-12 in 12 games with a +3, three power-play goals, one shorthanded, and three game-winning goals.

Dyland Garand (Kamloops Blazers)
Dylan Garand stopped 11 out of 12 shots he faced as his Kamloops Blazers just dominated the Vancouver Giants 6-1. Garand lost his bid for his third shutout of the season when Vancouver scored a power-play goal with just 42 seconds remaining in the third period.

No way can anyone fault Garand for the goal as there were four bodies screening him in front of the net and the puck found a way past him. Now it is easy to say that Garand had an easy night but watching the game, I disagree.

Because the Blazers so dominated play, Garand had to remain on his toes every second of the game. When the Giants did get a scoring chance, they were usually very good ones.

Garand improves to 10-2 (tops in the WHL) with a 1.93 goals against (fifth WHL),  a 0.923 save percentage (6th WHL), and he has two shutouts (fourth WHL).

Evan Vierling had another solid performance as his Barrie Colts defeated the Niagara Ice Dogs 7-4. Vierling had a goal and a primary assist as he was 1-1-2 +3 on three shots and was 11-6 on his faceoffs.

WIth Barrie trailing 2-0 in the first period, Vierling earned his first point by getting the primary assist on his team's goal. In the second with the game tied at 3-3, Vierling gave his team their first lead of the night when he converted a semi-breakaway for a goal using a nice deke then faked to the backhand to score.

It was Vierling's fifth goal as he improved to 5-6-11 after 13 games.

Talyn Boyko (Tri_City)
Talyn Boyko made it two straight wins as a member of the Kelowna Rockets as he stopped 18 out of 20 shots to lead the Rockets to a 5-2 win over the Prince George Cougars. Boyko gave up even-strength goals in the first and second periods before shutting the Cougars out in the third period.

While Boyko is 2-0 with a 2.00 goals against and 0.918 save percentage with Kelowna, he has improved to 3-7-1 with a 3.97 goals against and a 0.892 save percentage on the season. It is very clear that getting Boyko some support at both ends of the ice is showing the real player.

Hank Kempf had a primary assist as his 12th-ranked Cornell "Big Red" defeated  Union College 4-1. Kempf earned the assist on Cornell's third goal of the game as he is now 0-2-2 after five games on the season

Jayden Grubbe was scoreless as his Red Deer Rebels defeated Prince Albert Raiders 4-2. Grubbe was 7-5 on faceoffs for the game.

Hugo Ollas made 26 saves while facing 32 shots as his Merrimack Warriors lost in overtime to the Maine Black Bears 6-5. It was a rough outing for the freshman goalie as he gave up a goal on one shot in the first, three goals on 15 shots in the second, one goal on 13 shots, and finally one goal on three shots in the overtime period.

Ollas saw his record fall to 1-2 with a 3.52 goals against and a 0.883 save percentage.

Brett Berard was scoreless with a -1 on three shots as his 13th-ranked Providence Friars ended a three-game losing streak with a 2-1 overtime win over American International.

Brennan Othmann was scoreless on five shots with a -1 as his Flint Firebirds fell to the Saginaw Spirit 4-2 in OHL action. Othmann saw his five-game scoring streak end with the loss (6-3-9).

Brody Lamb was scoreless on one shot as his Green Bay Gamblers lost to the Cedar Rapids Roughriders 2-0 in USHL action.

Simon Kjellberg was scoreless on one shot with a -1 as his Rensselaer Engineers lost to the Colgate Raiders 5-2.

Did Not Play

Matt Rempe of the Seattle Thunderbirds served the second game of a two-game WHL suspension for an incident last week against Tri-City.

Riley Hughes of Northeastern missed Friday's game against UMass-Lowell as he is "week-to-week" with a lower-body injury. This is the second straight game he has missed.

ICYMI Eric Ciccolini of Michigan is out for the season with a lower-body injury.
