Rempe's Two Assists Lifts Thunderbirds To Win

Matthew Rempe (Brian Liesse)
With just four New York Ranger prospects playing on Sunday, it was the least likely of the group who recorded the points. Matthew Rempe had two primary assists to help his Seattle Thunderbirds defeat the Tri-City Americans.

Rempe, who entered Sunday's game with just four assists this season, made the offensive plays that he isn't known for. With the game tied at 1-1 in the second period; Rempe found Connor Roulette cutting into the offensive zone and Roulette finished the play to give the Thunderbirds the lead for good.

In the third period with Seattle up 3-1, Rempe won a puck battle deep in the Tri-City defensive zone and gave the puck to Roulette, who scored into an empty net for the final score of the game. It was a good overall game for the 6'9 center as he finished 0-2-2 on one shot with a +1 and went 12-6 on faceoffs.

Rempe improved to 15-6-21 on the season as his Thunderbirds won their third straight game and pulled to within three points of the Portland Winterhawks for third place in the WHL's Western Conference.

Brennan Othmann saw his seven-game scoring streak end as his Flint Firebirds defeated the Kitchener Rangers 3-1. Othmann was scoreless on seven shots with a -1 and a minor penalty for roughing.

The Flint captain had gone 5-7-12 during his scoring streak.

Will Cuylle saw his 12-game scoring streak end as his Windsor Spitfires defeated the Soo Greyhounds 5-4. The Windsor captain was scoreless on just one shot with a +1, and a minor for tripping.

Cuylle, who had gone 10-12-22 during the streak, was held scoreless for the first time since March 4th. The Spitfires won their seventh straight game and lead the OHL's Western Conference.

Brody Lamb and his Green Bay Gamblers were badly beaten by Team USA's NTDP team 10-1 in USHL action. Lamb was scoreless on three shots as the Gamblers were never in this game, giving up four goals in the first period.

The Gamblers, who are fighting with Team USA and Cedar Rapids for the sixth and final playoff spot in the USHL's Eastern Conference, are eighth place, two points behind both teams with just nine games left in their season.

Evan Vierling was not in the Barrie Colts' lineup as they defeated the Ottawa 67's 2-1. No word as to why Vierling did not play but he did finish Saturday's game.
